The season is winding down. We still have four races up for grabs!
FFF needs to win two of eight to clinch the BR-Williams.
QUI needs to win four of eight to clinch the BR-Mays.
LEB needs to win two of four to clinch the CY-Gibson.
WHW needs to win five of seven to clinch the CY-Wild Card. If WHW wins four, a one-game playoff with BDD.
BBM and SJS still have five to play.
ALT and BSK still have seven to play.
Along with the divisional and wild card races, we have quite the race for the Lottery.
LAS has locked in #1 with 40 wins and no games remaining.
EAT has locked in #2 with 56 wins and four games remaining.
ELR has locked in #3/#4 with 64 wins and five games remaining.
RID has locked in #3/#4 with 69 wins and no games remaining.
Those are your top 4 lottery teams. The last two have six teams within three wins of each other.
BBM has 72 wins and five games. Lose all five, and they're in.
ALT has 72 wins and seven games. Lose all seven, and they're in.
ARK has 73 wins and four games.
CDC has 74 wins and four games.
ILL has 75 wins and no games.
LEB has 75 wins and four games.
If CDC wins two, ARK wins three, and either of BBM/ALT win four, ILL is lottery :-).

The Saint Gabriel Apostles nipped the Lebanon Lugnuts 4 to 3 at Auto Zone
Stadium in a hard fought contest.
Saint Gabriel came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 8th
inning with 2 runs. After an out was recorded, Miguel Cabrera opened up the
rally as he drew a walk. Mike Jacobs was a strikeout victim, unable to help
out. Hanley Ramirez then popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 15th of
the season). Lebanon had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
C.C. Sabathia(15-10) went 7 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Sabathia got
help from Francisco Rodriguez who was credited with his 9th save. Tony
Pena(5-7) was the loser in relief.
It was another victory for Saint Gabriel at Auto Zone Stadium. Now their
winning streak stands at 6 games.
Apostles 13, Lugnuts 3
Smallball early turned into a big-ball blowout as homers were flying left and right. This pushes the Apostle streak to three games.

In an embarrassing outing for the Lebanon Lugnuts pitching staff, Saint
Gabriel Apostles flexed their collective muscle amassing 13 runs as Yusmeiro
Petit(3-2)with the help of the bullpen surrendered 3 runs to Lebanon.
Miguel Cabrera had a big day with his bat. He doubled bringing in a run in
the 5th inning and belted a three-run homer (his 38th of the season) in the
6th inning. Saint Gabriel simply wore out the Lebanon pitching staff,
scoring in 6 different innings.
Nate Robertson(6-14) suffered the loss. Saint Gabriel scored big getting 8
runs off him in 4 innings.
Apostles 5, Lugnuts 0
Jacobs' solo shot in the 2nd was all Bonser needed. Boof got into trouble in the 9th, but Neshek slammed the door. That makes two in a row for Saint Gabriel.

Boof Bonser delivered 8 solid innings at Auto Zone Stadium where the Saint
Gabriel Apostles beat the Lebanon Lugnuts 5 to 0.
Saint Gabriel took the lead for good in the 2nd inning plating an isolated
run. Mike Jacobs delivered a solo blast (his 13th of the season). That
early run support was enough for Bonser(5-4) and Saint Gabriel. Overall
Saint Gabriel out-hit Lebanon 9 to 4.
Kason Gabbard(1-5) was hit with the loss. With this win, Saint Gabriel has a
66-84 record. They have been 5-5 lately. With the loss, the Lebanon
ballclub's record is 68-79.

at Auto Zone Stadium.
Saint Gabriel tallied 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning when they had 3 base
hits. After an out was recorded, Ichiro Suzuki started the attack as he
laced a one-base hit. Hanley Ramirez came next and he reached on an error.
One out later, Mike Jacobs stepped up to the plate and he doubled which was
good for two runs. Saint Gabriel had 11 hits for the game and Lebanon had 6.
The victory was credited to Mike Bacsik(3-6) who went 5 innings, allowing 1
run. Bacsik got help from Kevin Gregg who was credited with his 15th save.
James Shields(9-10) ended up with the loss. He was pinned with the loss
despite not allowing an earned run in his 5 and 2/3 innings of work.

Lottery Six ... Two Weeks Left
With two weeks remaining in the season, the lottery teams are looking like this ...
LAS (35 wins), EAT (51), ELR (59), ILL (60), RID (61) and ALT (63) ... BBM (66), LEB (68) and ARK (69) have outside shots at sneaking in.
Up for grabs will be the right to draft and sign these six fine ballplayers:
#1) Evan Longoria, 23 yrs, 436 PA, 281/353/528
#2) Clayton Kershaw, 20 yrs, 96 IP, SP, 1.52/4.41
#3) Jay Bruce, 21 yrs, 404 PA, 260/317/450
#4) Joba Chamberlain, 23 yrs, 95 IP, S/RP, 1.25/2.56
#5) Geovany Soto, 26 yrs, 535 PA, 288/366/506
#6) Joey Votto, 25 yrs, 531 PA, 287/358/471
Bruce is Baseball Prospectus 2008's #1. Longoria is #3, Joba #4, and Kershaw #5. I wouldn't be surprised to see those guys the first four to go. I might take a chance for four year deals with Clayton and Jay, but sign the others to 3's.
You can't pass up on possibly the best catching prospect since Russell Martin in Soto. He's got to go Top 6; if he falls any further, it'll be a steal. Geovany was ranked #37 by BP. Give Geo 3 years and be happy to get a Top 3 offensive catcher for the prime of his career at 3M per.
I can see Votto slipping out of the top 6, with possibly Buchholz, Cueto or possibly Jurrjens taking his spot. Most teams already have a power-hitting 1B. He would have been the natural selection for ILL if I hadn't traded that pick to SJS.
Pennant Races and Rookies! Gotta love September thru March in the DBA!

The Races ... QUI vs BAY
The Battle of the Titans! Quincy (93-51) vs Bay State (92-52); Ortiz (338-46-122) vs A-Rod (327-56-133); Bedard (14-9 3.54) vs Hernandez (12-4 3.84); Wang (13-8 4.27) vs Oswalt (17-8 4.35).
Quincy leads the division by a single game with 18 to play. This week, QUI has BBM at home and BSK on the road. BBM doesn't have much left to play for, while BSK needs a good showing to wrap up their division. Quincy is in prime position to take 3 of 5 from BSK, and 4 of 5 from BBM to up their record to 100-54.
Then they have eight against BAY to end the season. Both will make the playoffs, but only one will have home field advantage.
Bay State plays ALT at home and FFF on the road. Altenberg is currently the 6th lottery team, and might be playing to keep that spot. However, ALT has no usage issues and will put out their opening day squad. BAY will have a tough time winning 3 of 5. And, in a previous post, BAY takes 3 of 5 from FFF. BAY enters the final week with a 98-56 record.
Head-to-head, BAY trumps QUI on numbers. Bay State leads the Babe Ruth in hitting (292) and is second in ERA (3.96). QUI is 5th in hitting (273) and just 7th in pitching (4.27). Both teams are scoring runs in bunches; QUI 843 (+169 diff) and BAY 820 (+220 diff).
Its going to be exciting!

The Races ... FFF vs RBC
This one is going to be good. Fairfax Fighting Falcon (FFF) leads Rio Brazos Elk Hair Caddis (RBC) by 2.5 games with just two weeks remaining. FFF is sporting an 82-62 record, while RBC sits at 78-63, just one game back in the loss column.
In the next week, FFF plays five at a fading ARK squad. ARK has played poorly down the stretch to see its chances at the post-season almost vanish. With Fairfax's pinpoint bullpen and lineup control, look for the Falcon to take 4 of 5.
FFF finishes up the week against a very strong BAY squad. BAY is in a dogfight of its own, and sports solid usage and utilization ... aka, they're rested and ready to go. I can see this one being one of the best series in the week. BAY takes 3 of 5 hard-fought contests.
That would put FFF at 88-66.
RBC plays eight against division rival BBM. I don't think BBM has much left in its tank, so don't expect any "spoiler" out of these two four-game series. RBC takes 6 of 8.
Its tough to figure out what SJS might do when it rolls into Rio Brazos. Out of the playoffs, out of the lottery, SJS could be playing to maintain 500, or out for blood. I'm guessing the 500 route, since San Juan has its share of usage issues. Look for RBC to win 3 of 5.
That would put RBC at 87-67.
The final week of the season will see FFF and RBC face-0ff for the final eight games, hopefully FTF. Winner moves on, loser goes home.

Week Two Update ...
As you can see, we still have some undecided races. In the Babe Ruth, only 2.5 games seperate FFF and RBC, while a single game is the difference between QUI and BAY. In the Cy Young, CDC and LEB are neck and neck, with just 0.5 games between the two. And the Wild Card race is just as tight between BDD and WHW.
