| Opening Day 2009 ... Two teams with high hopes after the Auction battled in Normandy Lake, with the visiting Apostles coming out on top in a nail-biter, 2-1. Saint Gabriel jumped ahead in the top of the first when Cabrera singled thru 2B Miles legs, scoring Hanley Ramirez. It appeared the Landsharks would tie it up in the bottom of the frame with men on 2nd and 3rd, 2 out, but Adam Dunn was a victim of the hidden ball trick :-). In the third, Carlos Lee belted a BP HR to make it 2-0. Glaus missed his opportunity to put Normandy Lake on top in the bottom of the third, missing a bases-loaded 1-8 double split. It stayed 2-zip until the bottom of the seventh, when Nieves slashed a PH RFX single, making cutting the lead in half, 2-1. NLL again rallied in the 8th, Drew led off with a SSX single and Werth hit a 1-11 single of his own, putting runners at first and second with no out. Adam Dunn grounded into a double-play off of lefty-specialist Reyes to quiet the crowd. Then Napoli gave the crowd reason to get on their feets, as he crushed one to center, only to see it fall into Suzuki's glove at the track (BP HR 1-9 missed). NLL went down walk, DP, K to end it. In a game for the baseball purist, Jamie Moyer(1-0) and Ricky Nolasco(0-1)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Saint Gabriel Apostles finally emerged
victorious over Normandy Lake Landsharks, 2 to 1.
Saint Gabriel jumped out to the early lead in the first inning plating an
isolated run on 2 hits. Saint Gabriel and Normandy Lake each finished the
night with 8 hits.
