In the opening game for the Whitecaps a thriller in the Snake Pit.....
despite 3 HR's by the Rattlers, 2 by Magglio Ordonez the Caps overcame the
Rattlers 6-5. Pitching was the key in the game for the Whitecaps as C.Durbin
came in and closed the door without any trouble. Great start to the season for the
Caps as well.

In a thriller the West Huron Whitecaps staged a dramatic comeback then held on
to win over the Ridgecrest Rattlers by a score of 6 to 5 at The Snake Pit
(08).
 
West Huron had the winning rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits.  Garret Anderson opened up the inning nicely when he
stroked a one-base hit.  After an out was recorded, Placido Polanco came up
and he doubled.  J.J. Hardy struck out, unable to help the rally.  Ross Gload
came up and he was walked intentionally.  Chad Qualls then let loose a wild
pitch.  Jason Varitek contributed to the rally and stroked a base-hit.  West
Huron managed 10 hits in their victory.  
 
The victory went to Chad Durbin(1-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
Qualls(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief.  'The only way this one could
have been better', said Durbin, 'was if we had played it at home.'
