After Block 2 ...




After 66 games, Bloomington has a slim 4g lead over Denver in the BR-Aaron. Rio Brazos is also up by 4g over Fairfax in the BR-Williams. DEN holds a 5g lead over FFF in the BR-WC.

In the CY, Ottawa continues to dominate everyone, with a commanding 22g lead over Ridgecrest in the Koufax. Carbondale has a comfortable 7g lead over Lebanon, with LEB holding a slight 2g lead over RID for the CY-WC.

Strokers 9, Apostles 2




Denver avoids the sweep, taking game 3 in convincing fashion! After the game, Denver sent a contract offer to struggling closer, Brandon Lyon. If DEN can sign him, he'll be traded along with speedy OF Nyjer Morgan to the Apostles for closer Brian Fuentes.

Saint Gabriel scored 3 runs in the top of the 5th inning.  Greg Maddux(3-6)
got help from Brian Fuentes who pitched a perfect ninth and was credited with
his 15th save.  
 
Brandon Webb(8-3) was tagged with the loss.  He was knocked around by Saint
Gabriel, allowing 8 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.  'He gutted it
out' Jamie Imhoff said of Maddux.  'I was very impressed by his tenacity.'

Saint Gabriel scored 4 runs in the 4th inning when they had 5 base hits.  The
crucial at-bat was provided by Butler who silenced Launching Pad (08) as he
lined a one-base hit plating two runs.  For the game Saint Gabriel out-hit
Denver 15 to 10.  
 
The victory was credited to Jamie Moyer(5-7) who went 6 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 6 runs. Brian Fuentes earned the save, his 14th.  Dana Eveland(5-4)
was tagged with the loss.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9 hits and 5

Brad Hawpe launched 2 homeruns at The Snake Pit (08) where the Ridgecrest
Rattlers beat the Saint Gabriel Apostles by the score of 5 to 3.
 
Aaron Harang(5-2) delivered a fine performance for Ridgecrest.  He went 7 and
1/3 innings surrendering 4 hits and 1 walk.  Harang whiffed an impressive
total of 9 Saint Gabriel batters.  Saint Gabriel was retired without
difficulty in the 9th.  
 
Chad Qualls was credited with his 12th save. Andrew Miller(1-4) was the losing
pitcher.  He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 11 hits and 3 walks
in 5 and 2/3 innings.

innings.  'Everything felt great' Johnson said. 'I had a good fastball, I

The Saint Gabriel Apostles came roaring back in the top of the ninth to spoil
the anticipated celebration of the hometown fans.  The final score,, was 7 to
6.
 
Saint Gabriel came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs
on 3 hits.  After an out was recorded, Hanley Ramirez keyed the rally when he
ripped a base-knock.  Miguel Cabrera was next and he cracked a two-run shot
(his 15th of the season).  Billy Butler then lined a single.  Chad Qualls
then was wild with a pitch.  One out later, Ichiro Suzuki was the next
batter, but he struck out.  Saint Gabriel finished with 13 hits while
Ridgecrest ended up with 9.  
 
Carlos Zambrano(4-5) was the winner allowing 6 runs in 8 innings. Brian
Fuentes recorded the save, his 13th.  Qualls(0-7) was the loser in relief.
 
'The only way this one could have been better', said Zambrano, 'was if we had
played it at home.'

Adam Lind slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Saint Gabriel Apostles
defeated the West Huron Whitecaps by the score of 5 to 3 at Old Kent Park
(08).
 
Randy Johnson(4-5) gave Saint Gabriel a solid outing.  He was reached for 5
hits and 1 walk in 7 and 1/3 innings.  Johnson racked up 9 strikeouts
improving his ERA from 5.14 to 4.79.  West Huron had a chance in the 9th but
they came up short.  
 
Johnson got relief help from Brian Fuentes who gained credit for his 12th
save.  Tim Redding(1-8) took the loss.  He surrendered 5 hits and 5 walks in
6 and 1/3 innings.

Adam Laroche connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI and Scott Olsen pitched
a complete game as the Burmese Blood Monkeys topped the West Huron Whitecaps
by a score of 6 to 2 at Ganzee Stadium (02).
 
The Burmese fans enjoyed the offense provided by Laroche.  He doubled which
scored a run in the 1st inning, laced a single in the 4th inning and popped a
two-run clout over the fence (his 8th of the season) in the 7th inning.
Burmese had a total of 14 hits for the game.  
 
The victory was credited to Olsen(2-4) who went the distance, allowing 2 runs.
Jesse Litsch(3-3) was tagged with the loss.

Litsch(4-3) was very good in the win.  He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 2 hits and no walks in 6 innings reducing his ERA from 3.50 to 3.19.
Saint Gabriel threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.  
 
Carlos Zambrano(3-5) was hit with the loss.  Jieff Shaver was beaming after
the game, 'Not only were we making good contact, but a lot of balls we hit
seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love winning these tight ones! It was just our
evening - no doubt about it!'

Catcher Jason Varitek had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Old Kent Park (08) as the
West Huron Whitecaps beat the Saint Gabriel Apostles 8 to 1.
 
Hiroki Kuroda(2-6) gave West Huron a solid outing.  He surrendered 5 hits and
no walks in 6 innings lowering his ERA from 4.33 to 4.10.  West Huron
finished with 13 hits while Saint Gabriel ended up with 7.  
 
Greg Maddux(2-6) took the loss.  He was knocked around pretty good, giving up
7 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.

49,072 fans watched an exciting game at Ganzee Stadium (02).  The Burmese
Blood Monkeys topped the West Huron Whitecaps by the slimmest of margins, 3
to 2.
 
In the 7th inning Burmese scored 2 runs.  The critical plate appearance was by
Andre Ethier who excited the crowd when he delivered a single scoring two
baserunners.  The West Huron batters went down meekly in the 9th.  
 
Aquilino Lopez(3-0) went 2 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Lopez was
helped out by Kerry Wood who recorded his 5th save.  The loss was charged to
Hiroki Kuroda(0-7).  
 
The Burmese ballclub's record now stands at 18-20. With the loss West Huron
now has a record of 19-31, worst in the division.

Carlos Zambrano tossed a complete game and right fielder Adam Lind had 2 base
hits and 2 RBI at Siebkens Park (06) as the Saint Gabriel Apostles beat the
Elkhart Lake Racers by the count of 9 to 3.
 
Saint Gabriel took the lead for good in the 6th inning plating an isolated run
on 3 hits.  After an out was recorded, Lind banged out a single.  Kevin
Kouzmanoff stepped up next and he was hit by a pitch.  Dioner Navarro then
lined a one-base hit to load the bases.  Ichiro Suzuki stepped in and he
stroked a single.  Suzuki was safe on a stolen base.  Saint Gabriel finished
with 14 hits in the victory.  
 
The victory was credited to Zambrano(3-4) who went the distance, allowing 3
runs. Jon Garland(1-9) was charged with the loss.

A.J. Burnett(7-6) put on a good performance.  He didn't allow much, just 4
hits and 3 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings lowering his ERA from 5.09 to 4.72.
Elkhart Lake ended up with 9 hits for the game while Saint Gabriel had 4.
 
Francisco Rodriguez recorded his 7th save.  Greg Maddux(2-5) was the losing
pitcher.  He gave up 9 hits and 4 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.

whitecaps squeak by monkeys 11-10 in 11 innings

i thought the game was well in hand but the monkeys came roaring back in the
bottom of the seventh and then tied it in the bottom of the ninth thus denying
verlander his 8th win. teams combined for 21 runs and 37 hits awesome game

It was a wild 11 inning day in Ganzee Stadium (02) where the West Huron
Whitecaps defeated the Burmese Blood Monkeys by the score of 11 to 10.
 
Both teams were tied at 10 runs apiece after nine innings.  West Huron won it
in the 11th inning.  After two were out Placido Polanco doubled.  J.J. Hardy
came next and he stroked a single.  Ross Gload then laced a one-base hit.
Jason Varitek came up and he was hit by a pitch.  West Huron lit up the
scoreboard in the 6th inning with 5 runs on 7 hits.  West Huron had 20 hits
for the game and Burmese had 17.  
 
Frank Francisco(2-1) went 2 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Trevor
Hoffman was credited with his 8th save.  Kerry Wood(0-2) absorbed the loss in
relief.  He gave up 3 hits and no walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.
