In a close game it was the Denver Strokers 5, the slumping Cleveland Buckeyes
3 at Launching Pad (08).
Cleveland never recovered after Denver took the lead in the bottom of the 7th
inning as they scored 2 runs on 2 base hits. The critical plate appearance
was by Derek Jeter who elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he doubled
bringing in two baserunners. Both teams finished the game with 8 hits.
The winning pitcher was Oliver Perez(14-7) who allowed 3 runs in 7 and 2/3
innings. Brian Fuentes got the save, his 23rd. Jarrod Washburn(2-4) took the
loss.
'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Perez, 'I got burned on
a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
