Jason Hammel carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Carbondale Dog
Catchers outscored the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 5 to 0.
Hammel(2-2) was simply too much for the Lehigh Valley batters. He surrendered
only 2 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. The right-handed Hammel lost his no-hit
bid when Luis Valbuena singled with two outs in the 6th inning. Carbondale
had 8 hits for the afternoon.
Vin Mazzaro(1-1) was the loser. Jim Hauseman lamented, 'Hammel was really
aggressive today. He kept coming after our hitters. Heck, why not. he kept
sitting our guys down one after another - like so many bowling pins!'
