WEB GEMS- Bot 1st: Joey Gathright robbed Kelly Shoppach of a Homerun!
Carlos Beltran rocketed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Elkhart Lake Racers
outscored the Cleveland Buckeyes in 12 innings 18 to 16.
The game was deadlocked at 15 after nine full innings. Elkhart Lake won the
game in the 12th inning. A.J. Pierzynski kicked off the action when he
slapped a one-base hit. Akinori Iwamura came next and he drew a walk. After
an out was recorded, Fred Lewis came to the plate and rifled a three-run
blast (his 7th of the season) resulting in a mighty exciting win for Elkhart
Lake and the 13,551 home town fans in attendance. Elkhart Lake kept the
scorekeepers busy in the 6th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 3 hits and
the 9th inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits. Elkhart Lake finished with 21
hits in the victory.
The win went to Glen Perkins(4-1) who allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Santiago Casilla(0-1) took the loss in relief. He allowed 2 runs and 2 hits
in 2 and 2/3 innings.
Beltran was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the
ball real well now. I made some adjustments last week and they are paying
off. That's what this game is about. making adjustments as the season goes
along.'
